Survey: 88% of European EV drivers are satisfied

Summer holidays are beginning across Europe, and a clear trend is emerging: electric vehicle (EV) drivers are hitting the road with complete peace of mind. A large-scaled survey conducted by Chargemap among nearly 20,000 drivers in 9 European countries reveals a very high level of satisfaction with EV driving and charging.

Record satisfaction among EV drivers

Once you’ve experienced electric driving, it’s hard to go back! According to the results of the study conducted among nearly 20,000 EV drivers in 9 European countries, 88% of users declare themselves satisfied or very satisfied with their experience. This figure even rises to 95% in Switzerland, 92% in the Netherlands, and 90% in Belgium.

Moreover, 83% of respondents have no intention of returning to an internal combustion engine car (petrol, diesel, or even plug-in hybrid). Electric mobility continues to win over users: beyond environmental benefits, it is also the quality of the driving experience that earns unanimous approval from drivers.

Traveling far in an electric car? Easier than ever!

One of the key findings of the survey concerns long journeys, often perceived as a barrier to adopting electric cars. Yet, 75% of EV drivers surveyed report making at least one long trip per year. This figure rises to 86% in the United Kingdom, 83% in the Netherlands, and 81% in Austria.

When it comes to mindset, nearly 3 out of 4 drivers say they feel confident or very confident about traveling long distances in an electric vehicle. And this growing sense of ease is thanks in part to reliable, well-established tools: the Chargemap app for finding charging stations and planning routes efficiently, and the Chargemap Pass, electric charging card providing access to over 700,000 charging points across Europe.

Charging stations: density deemed satisfactory in Europe, but still uneven

Public charging has now become an integral part of electric vehicle drivers’ routines across Europe. 69% of drivers report regularly charging at public stations, with peaks at 75% in Germany and 70% in France. Adoption remains strong even in countries where the infrastructure is reportedly still in need of improvement, such as Spain (63%) or Italy (60%).

As for charging station density, it is considered “good to very good” by 59% of respondents, with outstanding scores in the Netherlands (85%), Belgium (70%), Switzerland, and Austria (65%). These are clear signs that the infrastructure investments in these countries are paying off.

A Europe-wide survey

This large-scaled survey, conducted from March 26 to April 9, 2025, reflects the experiences of 19,958 EV drivers from 9 countries: France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Austria. This initiative aims to gain deeper insight into the habits, expectations, and satisfaction levels of EV drivers across Europe.

🌍 In summary:

  • Nearly 9 out of 10 European drivers are satisfied or very satisfied with their electric vehicle experience.
  • Nearly 3 out of 4 European drivers say they feel calm or very calm about taking long-distance trips in an electric vehicle.
  • Nearly 7 out of 10 European drivers say they regularly charge at public stations.
  • 83% of European EV drivers say they do not want to switch back to a petrol, diesel or (plug-in) hybrid vehicle.
