Autocharge on your electric car: how does it work? (+ competition)
23 January 2025 - 2 minutes to read
With Autocharge, you no longer need to hold your Chargemap Pass against the reader to start and pay for your charging sessions! All you have to do is plug your electric car into an Autocharge-compatible rapid charging point, and that’s it! Zoom in on the feature at Powerdot, our first Autocharge-compatible partner network.
What’s Autocharge?
Autocharge is a technology that allows you to charge your electric car at a public charging point without having to authenticate yourself, using a charging card for example. You plug in your vehicle, the charging point recognises it and starts the charging session. Charging stops as soon as you unplug the cable.
Is my electric vehicle compatible with Autocharge?
Autocharge is a technology that works via Combo CCS connectors. Only electric vehicles fitted with a Combo CCS charger, the European standard for DC charging, can use Autocharge.
However, some car brands/models with this type of charger are not compatible. To find out whether your vehicle is compatible, go to the Chargemap app, then to your profile to view your vehicles. A message will appear indicating whether or not you can use Autocharge.
How do I activate Autocharge in the Chargemap app?
- Find an Autocharge-compatible charging point in the Chargemap app using a dedicated filter.
2. Plug in your vehicle, then start charging using your Chargemap Pass. ⚠️ The order of execution is important here.
3. Once you have started charging, you will shortly receive a notification on your phone and/or an email inviting you to discover Autocharge.
4. Click on it to go to the app and follow all the instructions to activate Autocharge on your vehicle. Activation is very simple and only takes 3 clicks.
5. You’re all set! Autocharge will be used as the default charging method at Autocharge-compatible charging points via Chargemap as of the next charging session.
Your charging sessions started via Autocharge are invoiced to your Chargemap account as usual, at no extra cost.
Note that you can activate Autocharge on multiple vehicles with your account. You can disable the feature at any time from the Pass tab of your Chargemap account.
For the moment, only the Powerdot charging network is compatible with Autocharge via Chargemap. Powerdot offers more than 7,600 Autocharge-compatible chargepoints in France, Spain, Belgium and Poland. Other networks will be connected very soon!
