All-electric Porsche Taycan – Hugo debriefs us
19 January 2023 - 3 minutes to read
To thank our top 300 contributors to the Chargemap app for their loyalty, we organised a competition in collaboration with Porsche France. Our outright winner, Hugo, won the opportunity to try out the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo for a whole weekend. In this article, we share the new driving sensations he discovered.
A sensational weekend in an all-electric Porsche Taycan
The Space Mountain of the EV world
“Power is instantly available and the car never runs out of steam!” With 750 hp under the bonnet, the Taycan Turbo S represents the quintessential Porsche driving experience for Hugo, zooming from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
“A plush sports car that just purrs along on the motorway when you travel long distances. Steering is unerringly precise, making you feel as if you’re running on rails!” explains Hugo.
What’s it like to charge a sports car? Basically, the car is designed for rapid charging. Behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, Hugo had a maximum power rating of 270 kW with 800 volt battery technology, which is not yet widespread in the market. A real boon on long journeys, the car is designed for rapid charging.
State-of-the-art assistance systems for driver guidance
The luminous panoramic roof and ground-breaking, on-board technology give the Porsche Taycan Turbo its world-class status. Hugo was wowed by the battery temperature display allowing him to adapt his driving and charging. Hugo thoroughly enjoyed experiencing a peerless, smooth drive on the motorway as he sampled Porsche Inno Drive, an adaptive cruise control, coupled with the lane-keeping facility.
Because there is always room for improvement, he thinks the on-board system could be simplified and the range of options streamlined to enhance menu flow. Finally, in his opinion, the Porsche regenerative brake experience would benefit from being a little more reactive.
Enjoying the Porsche Destination Charging experience
As part of his prize, Hugo and his brother stayed at a renovated farmhouse converted into a 5-start hotel, where they basked in the friendly atmosphere. Equipped with 2 charging stations, Maison Zugno welcomes you at the very heart of the Jura. Dream on! The Porsche Destination Charging network provides charging facilities with their partners, including starred restaurants, superb hotels and golf courses. They are available for all types of vehicles and free for Porsche drivers.
A real delight for Hugo who discovered “a charming place owned by people who really wanted to talk about e-mobility and sustainable development. An address to keep in your wallet!”
EV drivers – a community that helps each other out
Right from the start of his e-journey in 2013, Hugo became part of the Automobile Propre community. Then he bought his first Renault Zoe in 2015 and became a member of Chargemap. Since then, he has regularly made contributions on the app.
Hugo sees Chargemap as a community he can rely on. It’s a place where he finds what he’s looking for in e-mobility – drivers helping each other out.
Drawing from his experience as a pro-active member, Hugo has suggested we create a chat page. He pictures users interacting with each other, for example to “have a quick exchange with the person already plugged in to find out how much longer they will be charging.” An excellent idea!
A story for the road
One highlight for Hugo involved another EV driver. “We were driving from one Auchan shop to another as they have installed rapid charging stations for travellers. When I arrived at one supermarket, the charging point was occupied. I opened my charging port and went inside to do my shopping. While I was in the shop, I met the driver who was hooked up and we exchanged a few words. When I got back, I was delighted to find that the driver had plugged my car in before driving away from the charging point. That, for me, is a fine example of how EV drivers help each other out!”
A last tip for all e-drivers
“Think about checking out the comments on a charging station in Chargemap and not just its state. Contributors can leave additional information about the charging point, such as the real state of a charger,” Hugo advises.
Our thanks go to Hugo for telling us all about his weekend behind the wheel of a Porsche Taycan and his many contributions on the Chargemap app.
And what about you? What electric car do you dream of driving? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments.
Lucky guy, although for me power isn’t the be all and end all of an EV. It is saving the planet that matters. But I agree with Hugo, a Chat option in ChargeMap would be great. The community is already get but…
